Born in Tehsil Bagh, District Poonch, J&K, India on 25 December 1935. Educated at Govt. Middle School, Jammu Cantt, 1952-54; SRMP High School, Jammu, 1955-56; GGM Science College, Jammu, 1957-58; Govt. Agricultural College & Research Institute, Ludhiana, 1958-62; PAU, Ludhiana, 1962-68; B.Sc. 1962; M.Sc. 1964; Ph.D. 1968; Post-doctoral Fellowships, IRRI, Manila, Philippines, 1975-77, and McGill University, Montreal, Canada, 1980-83.

Fellow: Indian National Science Academy, 1992.

Research Areas: Plant biochemistry, metabolism of carbohydrates and their bio-regulation during growth and development of cereals, legumes, forages & other commercial crops.
