Born in Puri District of Odisha on October 9,1961.Completed B.Sc (Hons) Botany in 1981 from Utkal University, M.Sc.1983, M.Phil. 1985 and Ph.D. 1989 in Botany from University of Delhi.
Lecturer (Asst.Professor) 1997-98,Reader ( Associtae Professor) 1998-2006 and Professor from 2007 till now at Department of Botany,University of Delhi,Delhi-110007. Director, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) since October 2014. Chairman, Governing Body, Kalandi College, University of Delhi, 2013-14. Visiting Fellow Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C., USA 1992, INSA Visiting Fellow Kochi University, Kochi, Japan 1999-200, University of Connecticut, Stamford, USA 2002. Trained in " Marine Management-Good Governance in practice" by SIDA in Sweden and Vietnam 2009. First-ever Indian student participant in the 7th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica during 1987-88; Former Director Institute of Bioresources & Sustainable Development (IBSD), Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
