Born in Maroophpur village, Allahabad, India on 9 January 1951. Educated at Indravas Kumari Memorial Intermediate College, Ananpur, 1964-68; Allahabad Agricultural Institute, Allahabad 1968-71; University of Allahabad, 1971-76; B.Sc. 1971; M.Sc. 1973; Ph.D. 1976.

Currently, Guest Faculty, Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University, Hyderabad.

Head, Land Degradation Division, 1993-2002; Head, Sustainable Agriculture Division, 2002-2004; Group Director, Agriculture and Soils, 2004-06, and Group Director, Land Resources, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Department of Space, Government of India, Hyderabad.

Awards/Honours: National Remote Sensing Award of Indian Society of Remote Sensing; Doreen Mashler Team Award.

Fellow: Indian Geophysical Union; AP Academy of Sciences.

Research Areas: Soil resources inventory and mapping, and studying the dynamics of degraded lands, precision farming using spaceborne multispectral data from both indigenous and foreign earth observation missions
