Born in Siddarthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, India on 18 July 1947. Educated at Ratan Sen Intermediate College, Bansi 1960-64; Govt. Agriculture College (now CSAUA&T), Kanpur, 1964-68, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, 1968-71; MSc. 1968; Ph.D. 1971.
