Born in Allahabad, India on 19 June 1927. Educated at Government Inter College, Allahabad, 1936-41; Ewing Christian College, Allahabad, 1941-43; University of Allahabad, 1943-51; B.Sc. 1945; M.Sc. 1947; D.Phil. 1951.

Lecturer, 1952-58, Reader, 1958--68, Professor of Zoology, 1968-82, and Head, Department of Zoology, 1976-79 University of Delhi; Programme Leader, Crop Pests Research, 1983-92 and Deputy Director/Dy. Director General, 1992-95, International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), Nairobi, KENYA.
