Born in Hirnoty, Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, India on 1 July, 1953. Educated at High School in 1970 from Wair, Bulandshahr, UP, PUC (1971), B.Sc. (1974), M.Sc. (1976) and Ph.D. (1986) in Botany with specialization in Plant Pathology from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, UP.

Joint Director, CPRI Campus, Modipuram, 2000-2010; Acting Director, CPRI, Shimla, 2004-2005; Principal Scientist, 1998-2000; Sr. Scientist, 1996-1998; Scientist S-2, 1983-1985; Scientist S-1, 1977-1983; Director, ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla, 2010-16.
