Senior Professor, Department of Microbiology, Sikkim University (a Central University), Gangtok, Sikkim. Post held: Registrar of Sikkim University, 2011-13; former-Dean of School of Life Sciences, 2012-2020, former Officiating Vice-Chancellor, 2017-2018.

Awards/Honours: The S.K. Majumdar Memorial Award of Darjeeling Government College as the best student, 1983; North Bengal University Gold Medal in M.Sc. (Botany), 1984; United Nations University Women Association-Award, Tokyo, 1996; DBT National Bio-Science Award, 2005; Gourmand World Cookbook Award - 2010, Paris for his book: "Himalayan Fermented Foods: Microbiology, Nutrition, and Ethnic values".
