Educated at Biswambhar Bidyapeeth High School, Puri, Odisha 1979-84; SCS College, Puri, Odisha, 1984-86; College of Agricultural Engineering, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, 1986-92; B. Tech. (Agricultural Engineering) 1990, M. Tech and Ph.D (Agricultural Engineering) 1992, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, 1994-98; Ph.D. 1998; Post-Doctoral fellow (2years) McGill University, Montreal, Canada, 2002-2004.

Subramaniam Award for Outstanding Teachers 2016 by ICAR; Jawaharlal Nehru award for significant research accomplishments in Agricultural Engineering (1999); Associate of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) 2009; Best Teacher Award, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi (2015); Fellow of Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE)- 2025; Fellow of Institution of Engineers, India (IEI); Shankar Memorial Award by ISAE (2012); Young professional Awards by International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage(ICID) (2003) and IWMI-TATA (2005); Orissa Engineering Congress prize for best paper (2003); Award of BOYSCAST fellowship (2001) by DST, GoI and Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Sustainable Agriculture by McGill University, Montreal, Canada (2002-2004); Best paper Award by ISAE (twice during 2011 and 2013); Gold medal for securing first position during B.Tech and M. Tech programme (1990 and 1992); P C Patra Memorial award by Institution of Engineers, India-2025.
Research Areas: Hydrologic modelling in watershed systems; Simulation of AquaCrop, SWAP, and DSSAT crop models for simulation grain and biomass yield of different crops and HYDRUS for root zone soil moisture dynamics; Development of IoT enabled integrated sensing systems for irrigation scheduling and flow measurement in open field channels; Spatio-temporal variability mapping; Development of Decision Support Systems in hydrology and agricultural water management; Design and implementation of groundwater recharge structures; Installation, operation and management of canal automation systems; water budgeting studies at State level; Development, standardization and upscaling of irrigation and fertigation schedules and agricultural water management protocols for different crops under different methods of irrigation.
