Born in Madikeri, Kodagu, Karnataka, India on 5 February 1956. Educated at Government Higher Primary School, Kudige, Kodagu District, 1961-68; Fatima High School, Kushalnagar, Kodagu, 1968-70; Banumaiah High School, Mysore, 1970-71; Pre-University (1971-73) and B.Sc. (1971-76) Yuvaraja's College, Mysore; University of Mysore. B.Sc. 1976; M.Sc. 1978; M.Phil. 1980; Ph.D. 1983 (CSIR-SRF).
Retired Professsor/Chairman and UGC-BSR-Faculty Fellow, Department of Studies in Biotechnology, University of Mysore.
Lecturer, Department of Studies in Applied Botany & Seed Pathology (now renamed as DOS in Biotechnology), 1984-88; Reader 1988-98, University of Mysore; Served as Chairman of the Department six terms; Coordinator of DANIDA seed pathology training programme, UGC-SAP-DRS, DST-FIST, DBT-HRD, UGC-SAP-DSA, programmes; Principal Investigator of DBT, UGC, ICAR and Industry funded research projects; Local Coordinator of Europe Aid project; Coordinator - Planning & Research - Institution of Excellence scheme (Rs.100 crores) sanctioned by MHRD-UGC, Govt. of India to the University of Mysore.
