Born in Parimella, West Godavary, Andhra Pradesh, on 7 October 1938. Educated at the STVNHH School, Pentapadu, 1947-53, DNR WGB College, Bhimavaram, 1953-55, Andhra University College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam (B.E.,1955-59),Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, M.E., 1959-61 and Purdue University, USA, Ph.D., 1967-69.

Associate Lecturer, National Institute of Technology, Warangal, 1961-64; Lecturer and Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, 1964-72; Prinicpal Scientist, Professor & Project Director, Water Technology Centre 1972-98, and Chairman, School of Resource Management, 1997-98, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi; Project Coordinator, All India Coordinated Research Project on Groundwater Utilization, 1996-98, and Professor Emeritus, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, 1999-2002; Consultant to MOWR, DST, WMO.ICID and FAO in Hydrology and Water Resources Management in Agriculture; Currently Chairman, Sub-Committee for Comprehensive simulation studies for the National Project of Govt. of India, on Inter-linking of Rivers, Min. of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, GOI and Associate Editor, Journal of "Agricultural Research" Published by NAAS; Member, Editorial Board, Journal of World Water Council (Delhi Chapter).

Awards/Honours: Best Paper Award by FAO, 1974; Best Paper Award by the Institution of Engineers (India), 1975; First Prize for film titled" Water Harvesting "at the International Agro Film Festival, Czeckslovakia, 1990; IARI Best Faculty Award, 1995; Bharat Singh Award, 1997.

Fellow: Institution of Engineers (India); National Academy of Sciences, India; Indian Association of Hydrologists.
