Born in Islamnagar, Saharanpur, India on 17 August 1940. Educated at Gochar Inter College Rampur Maniharan, Saharanpur, 1954-58; Allahabad Agricultural Institute, 1958-61; G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, 1969-72 and 1980-84; B.Sc. (Agri. Engg) 1961; M.Tech. 1972; Ph.D. 1984.
