Born in Talewal, District Sangrur, Punjab, India on 1 April 1948. Educated at Govt. Hr Secondary School, Patto Hira Singh 1963-65; College of Agriculture, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana (PAU), 1965-75; B.Sc. 1969; M.Sc. 1971; Ph.D. 1975.

Assistant Soil Chemist, PAU, 1976-86; Soil Scientist, Potash Research Institute of India Gurgaon, 1983 to 1984; Soil Chemist, PAU, 1986 to 1994; Senior Soil Chemist, Department of Soils, PAU 1994 to 2008.

Awards/Honours: PAU Teachers Association Award of Excellence 1986; FAI Silver jubilee Award of Excellence 1989; PSCST Certificate of Appreciation, 1994; Twelfth International Congress Commemoration Award of ISSS, 1999; Dr Dalip Singh Trophy for Excellence in Soil Science, UAS, Faislabad, Pakistan 2000; TSI-FAI Award on Plant Nutrient Sulphur, 2008.

Fellow: Indian Society of Soil Science.
