Born in Mysore, Karnataka, India on 1 June 1957. Educated at National Bhagini Seva Samaj, Mysore, 1969-72; Sharada Vilas College, Mysore, 1972-74 & 1974-77; Manasagangotri, University of Mysore, Mysore, 1977-79; Ph.D. 1986; Post-doctorate at Harvard Medical School, USA, 1989-91; Senior Research Associate at Washington University School of Medicine, 1991-93; Visiting Scientist at Kyoto University Japan, 2013.

Principal Scientist, CISR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, 2007 to date.

Scientist, 1999-2003; and Senior Scientist, 2003-2007, CISR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore; Serving as a member of Board of Studies/Examination/Selection in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Food Technology, Molecular Biology at Universities of Mysore, Kuvempu, Davanegere, Mangalore and Vishweshwaraiah Technological Universities. Handled more than 15 projects funded by DST, DBT, DAE, TRIFED, ICMR and CSIR as Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator, Member etc.

Awards/Honours: Lalji Godho Smarak Nidhi Award by AFSTI, 2012; Best Technology Transfer Award, 2011; Best Scientist Award 2008; Best Poster Awards in - International (5) and National Symposiums (4) during the years -2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 (2), 2008, 2005 and 2004; Received a Best Researcher Appreciation Certificate, 1993 from Harvard Medical School, USA and from African Journal of Biotechnology, 2011

Research Areas: Nutraceuticals against various chronic diseases, particularly cancer and ulcer; Glycobiology; Food Security; Preparation of health products for the benefit of the society; Addressing a global problem of Malnutrition and development of strategies to overcome the same
