Born in Daulatpur, Una, Himachal Pradesh, India on 11 February 1949.

Distinguished Professor and Department Chair, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department at Iowa State University.

Consultant, as an expert on the development of international water projects; World Bank, UN Food and Agriculture Organization, European Union, UNDP, NATO, USAID, and several foreign governments and universities.

Awards/Honours: International Service Award, Outstanding Graduate Faculty Award, and Engineering College Outstanding Young Faculty Award, Iowa State University; Distinguished International Faculty Award; Outstanding Reviewer Awards by ASABE; Outstanding Paper Award by the ASABE; Mid-Central Conference Member of the Year and Iowa section Engineer of the Year Awards of the ASABE; Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Georgian Agrarian University, Tbilisi, Georgia; Charles Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agricultural Award, 2009 of Iowa State University; John Deere Gold Medal Award 2009 of ASABE.
