Educated at Government Higher Primary School, Kudige, Kodagu District, 1962-69; Fatima High School, Kushalnagar, Kodagu, 1968-70; Banumaiah High School, Mysore, 1970-71; Pre-University and B.Sc. Yuvaraja's College, Mysore, 1971-76; University of Mysore. B.Sc. 1976; M.Sc. 1978; M.Phil. 1980; Ph.D. 1983.

Research Areas: Stress respones of plants, Seed health diagnostics, Molecular diversity and bioprospecting of medicinal plants and their endophytes, Molecular/Biochemical profiling and barcoding of native varieties.
