Born in Tejpur, Uttar Pradesh, India on 1 February 1955. Educated at Sri Kidwai Higher Secondary School Kanpur, 1969-70; Govt. Higher Secondary School Barkheda, Bhopal, 1971; College of Agricultural Engineering, JNKVV, Jabalpur, 1973-78; IARI, New Delhi, 1978-1984; B. Tech. ( Agril. Engg.) 1978; M.Sc.( Agril. Engg.) 1980; Ph.D. 1984.

Professor (Emeritus), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, 2020 to date.

Lecturer, 1984-89; Assistant Professor, 1989-98; and Associate Professor, 1998-2003; Professor 2003-10; Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.

Awards/Honours: UNESCO Scholarship Perugia, Italy 1992; ISAE Shankar Memorial Award 1996-97; DAAD Fellowship, Germany 2002; ISAE Commendation Medal 2002-03; Best Paper Award ICPPF 2005; ISAE Director (Technical) Soil & Water Engg., 2009-10; Hari Krishna Shastri Memorial Award (IARI), 2012; Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award (ICAR) 2014; ISAE ( Team Award) for developing e-courses in Agricultural Engineering 2016; Eminent Water Resources Scientist Award, IWRS, IIT Roorkee, 2018, Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (IASE) Gold Medal, 2020; Member RAC ICAR-CIAE Bhopal and ICAR-RCER Patna.
