Born in Varanasi, India on 31 July 1942. Educated at Kalika Dham Higher Secondary School, Sewapuri 1958; Jagatpur Inter College, Varanasi 1960; Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, B.Sc. 1963 & M.Sc. 1965; GBPUAT, Pantnagar, Ph.D. 1972.

Subject Matter Specialist, 1971-73, Jr. Scientist, 1974-78, Sr. Scientist, 1979-86, Chief Scientist & P.I. AICRP on Micro- and Secondary Nutrients and Pollutant Elements in Soils and Plants, 1987-2002, and Chairman, P.G. Deptt. of Soil Science, 1999-2002 Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa; Officiating Director, Sugarcane Research Institute for 1 1/2 years; Nodal Officer, European Economic Community Project on Reclamation and Development of Alkali Lands in Bihar for 2 years.

Awards/Honours: B.P. Singh Award for Outstanding Research in Agril. Sciences, 1998; S.N. Ranade Memorial Life Time Achievement Award for Excellence in Micronutrient Research, 2000; TSI-FAI Award on Plant Nutrient Sulphur, 2000; ICAR Chaudhary Devilal Outstanding Award for AICRP on Micro - and Secondary Nutrients and Pollutant Elements in Soils and Plants, 2001.
