Born in Jajpur, Orissa, India on 22 November 1955. Educated at Ranihat High School, Cuttack, 1966-70; BJB College, Bhubaneswar, 1970- 74; Ravenshaw College, Cuttack, 1974-76; Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, 1977-80; Ph.D, 1984.
