Microplastics Pollution: Strategies for Remediation in Sustainable Environmental Management

The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) organized a Brainstorming Session on Strategy Workshop entitled “Microplastics Pollution: Strategies for Remediation in Sustainable Environmental Management” under the Chairmanship of Dr W. S. Lakra (Secretary, NAAS)on December 03, 2024 in hybrid mode. The session was convened by Dr S. P. Datta (Director, ICAR-IISS, Bhopal). A number of insightful presentations were made by Prof. Dave Chadwick, &Prof. Davey Jones(Bangor University, UK), Dr.TapanAdhikari (Head, Environmental Soil Science Division, ICAR-IISS, Bhopal), Dr.SmitaMohanty (Principal Director & Head / Sr. Principal Scientist, CIPET, Bhubaneshwar), Dr.Surajit Das (Professor, National Institute of Technology Rourkela), Dr.SubrataHait (Associate Professor, IIT, Patna), Dr.SukalyanChakraborti(Associate Professor, BIT, Ranchi),  Dr. Anurag Garg (Professor, IIT-Bombay, Mumbai), Dr. Pankaj Kumar Srivastava (Principal Scientist, CSRI-NIBR, Lucknow)Dr.MonoranjanMohanty, Adviser/Scientist ‘G’, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and other scientists from various ICAR institutes and SAUs.This workshop is an effort to gather current understanding of MP pollution in soils of India by reviewing available scientific literature. Along with this, the discussion also focused on identification of the gap areas in current knowledge and highlights way forward for future research. This would further help in meeting the goals of this emergent pollutant management.
